Kirsten completed her Physiotherapy degree in Adelaide, Australia in 1989. She moved to Edinburgh in 1991 and in 1992 founded The Edinburgh Physiotherapy Centre. Through extensive postgraduate training she has gained standards of excellence in treatment of sporting injuries, RSI, spinal pain and chronic pain. Her previous studies in music also help her understand and treat many professional musicians. In addition to treating a wide range of spinal and joint problems, her versatility and experience has also allowed her to work with Olympic sportspersons and professional actors, such as with her commission as on-site Physio for 'The Jacket', a George Clooney production.
During the past few years she has devoted substantial time to scientific golf research. As consultant lecturer for the PGA, she has appeared on the Golf Channel, and is recognised by The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy as the UK golf Physiotherapy expert. Her work in this field is devoted to both reduction of injury and performance enhancement. Along with Mark Comerford, world renowned researcher and lecturer, Kirsten launched the Swingbuster Golf Assessment, specifically for golfers, which is now available at the clinic.
Kirsten is now working to manage and develop the rapidly expanding Centre whilst maintaining the highest professional standards. She hand- picks only the best clinicians to work with her.
Denis qualified with an Honours degree in Physiotherapy from Glasgow in 1999. After spending his initial 2 years in an NHS setting, he worked in a variety of clinics throughout the UK and Germany. In addition to his daily caseload he was involved in treating elite/international athletes from the field of athletics, rugby and football.
Denis originally became interested in Physiotherapy through his participation in international athletics as a competitor, and his general participation in sport. He believes that competitors at all levels benefit from both preventative manual therapy and sound rehabilitation principles.
Denis has a keen interest in the assessment and management of headaches/TMJ (Jaw/facial) pain and recently completed further training with a leading specialist from South Africa. In addition he also holds specialties in treating hyperventilation/asthma and dizziness/loss of balance therapies.
Brendan qualified from Otago University (Dunedin, New Zealand) in 2005 and has worked in private practice since graduation. He is moving from London to join our Edinburgh clinic and were looking forward to welcoming him into our fold!
His experience encompasses a broad range of clients; from sportspeople at a variety of levels, namely rugby and basketball at national level and cricket to international level, to those suffering occupational stresses and strains. Having competed in running events up to ultra-marathon distance he loves the challenge of treating obsessive runners using a combination of skilful manual therapy and in-depth rehabilitation, to provide the most effective relief of pain.
His greatest challenge is making sure his patients understand their injuries in order to: a) prevent recurrence and b) apply self-management techniques in order to keep healthy.
Outside of work, he’s looking forward to sampling Edinburghs diverse cultural scene, peaceful days fly fishing and the social round of golf. Brendan has enjoyed ski seasons in Canada and Japan and looks forward to further exploring the slopes of Europe over the coming years.
Vicky qualified in Anatomical Sciences at Edinburgh University then enlisted in the medical core to pursue her interests in front line medical services. During this time, she began working with physiotherapists and found the combination of problem solving and practical application of techniques suited her interests, background and passions perfectly.
Qualifying as a Physiotherapist with Honours in Wales (2005), Vicky achieved the clinical excellence award, given to the Physiotherapist with the highest clinical grades in her University year. She then specialised in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy and developed a special clinical interest in treating spinal and pelvic dysfunction. From 2006 she undertook the role of Clinical educator and mentor, and became involved in improving systems to deliver evidence based quality treatment for the lower back and pelvis.
Vicky has developed a number of specilalised skills to effectively assess and treat muscuoskeletal conditions, using a combination of manual therapy (including manipulation), acupuncture (including dry needling) and the treatment of lumbo-pelvic dysfunction. She yields excellent results from her integrated approach to treatment and is proud of the role that Physiotherapy has to play in the treatment of all Musculoskeletal Conditions.
Vicky is extremely skilled in treating patients with chronic and complex problems.
