Kirsten completed her Physiotherapy degree in Adelaide, Australia in 1989. She moved to Edinburgh in 1991 and in 1992 founded The Edinburgh Physiotherapy Centre. Through extensive postgraduate training she has gained standards of excellence in treatment of sporting injuries, RSI, spinal pain and chronic pain. Her previous studies in music also help her understand and treat many professional musicians. In addition to treating a wide range of spinal and joint problems, her versatility and experience has also allowed her to work with Olympic sportspersons and professional actors, such as with her commission as on-site Physio for 'The Jacket', a George Clooney production.
During the past few years she has devoted substantial time to scientific golf research. As consultant lecturer for the PGA, she has appeared on the Golf Channel, and is recognised by The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy as the UK golf Physiotherapy expert. Her work in this field is devoted to both reduction of injury and performance enhancement. Along with Mark Comerford, world renowned researcher and lecturer, Kirsten launched the Swingbuster Golf Assessment, specifically for golfers, which is now available at the clinic.
Kirsten is now working to manage and develop the rapidly expanding Centre whilst maintaining the highest professional standards. She hand- picks only the best clinicians to work with her.
Nicholas completed his Physiotherapy degree at the University of Sydney, Australia in 1994. Initially he worked in private practices in Australia before moving to the UK in 1996.
He has a particular interest in spinal pain and has worked as a specialist low back pain Physiotherapist for several years. Completing his Master's Degree in Physical Therapy at Quinnipiac University, (Connecticut USA) in 2006, his research involved the study of Pilates versus other forms of spinal stabilization exercises.
Specialising in headaches and jaw (TMJ) pain Nicholas uses many techniques including trigger pointing and John F Barnes myofasical releases. The effects on patients, even with years of pain, is dramatic.
Nicholas conducts slow-motion video analysis of sporting performance which can help prevent injury and improve sporting performance, available to individuals and clubs. Coaches have found this information extremely valuable in deciding on training programmes for players.
Nicholas is a keen swimmer and cyclist and enjoys the challenge of treating 'difficult' pain.
Denis qualified with an Honours degree in Physiotherapy from Glasgow in 1999. After spending his initial 2 years in an NHS setting, he worked in a variety of clinics throughout the UK and Germany. In addition to his daily caseload he was involved in treating elite/international athletes from the field of athletics, rugby and football.
Denis originally became interested in Physiotherapy through his participation in international athletics as a competitor, and his general participation in sport. He believes that competitors at all levels benefit from both preventative manual therapy and sound rehabilitation principles.
Denis has a keen interest in the assessment and management of headaches/TMJ (Jaw/facial) pain and recently completed further training with a leading specialist from South Africa. In addition he also holds specialties in treating hyperventilation/asthma and dizziness/loss of balance therapies.
After running a large Physiotherapy outpatient teaching department in London, Polly moved to Edinburgh in 2001, where she ran her own Sports and Spinal Private Practice for 4 years.
Polly is specialist in treating occupational, spinal and sports injuries. Having worked with several high ranking young tennis players, she employs Australian muscle balance techniques to screen for sports performance enhancement and prevention of injury. Coming from a 'sporty' family, she uses these specialist techniques to encompasses a wide variety of sports.
More recently, through her own experience of pregnancy and early parenthood, Polly has also specialised in the antenatal and postnatal needs of women, with treatments not routinely covered in the NHS.
Currently Polly can be found working in-house for Scottish Widows where the diversity of client's problems draws on many aspects of her experience.Prior to qualifying as a physiotherapist, Fiona obtained a BSc Honours degree in Physiology in 2000 before achieving an MSc in Rehabilitation Science in 2002 from Glasgow Caledonian University.
As a specialist in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and a qualified acupuncturist she combines a senior position in the NHS with private practice, treating post operative orthopaedic conditions, spinal (acute and chronic conditions), sport injuries and antenatal/postnatal problems. She has been involved in treating all levels of sports people, men and women, from the recreational athlete to professional football, rugby and basketball players.
In addition, Fiona has a keen interest in Pilates and the application of these principles to effectively reduce strain and injury.
Robbie qualified as an Osteopath and Naturopath in 2003. Initially trained in Zoology, his interest in biomechanics of human and animal evolution led him to train in Osteopathy at the British College of Osteopathy and Naturopathy in London. He further specialised in Medical Acupuncture to add another angle to his practice repertoire.
His interest in how modern lifestyles affect posture and body movement has led to his interest in ergonomics and work related injuries; particularly those caused by constant static postures or continued repetitive movements.
Robbie enjoys helping those that the medical profession has discarded and treats many people who have 'tried everything else'. His is fully qualified, registered and insured and, as an Osteopath, is accepted by most health insurance providers.
Qualifying in 1995, Nikki is a specialist in manual therapy for acute and long term spinal pain, sports injuries and chronic pain. Through working in a variety of settings she has gained extensive clinical and educational experience, and obtained her prestigious accreditation with the Society of Orthopaedic Medicine in 2002.
Skilled in acupuncture for pain relief, Nikki uses a Muscle Balance approach combined with Maitland joint therapy, effective for not only reducing recurrences of injury but improving performance in sport.
Nikki has a special interest in treating headaches and jaw/Temporomandibular problems.
