Memory Foam Pillows & Mattresses

A supportive sleeping platform is one of the most important things you can buy to improve your general health. A bed should provide suppport for your muscles, bones and joints, yet be comfortable enough to allow you uninterrupted sleep.

Most modern beds provide enough structual rigidity, but many are let down by extremely poor mattress quality. The support given by a conventional sprung mattresses will often fade, breaking down over time as springs wear and lose tension. Over a prolonged period, this may create health issues which can affect your sleep, and therefore your body's ability to heal itself.

SleepShaper Memory Foam MattressMemory foam mattresses and pillows are a great alternative to conventional products. Made from temperature-sensitive material, which was originally developed by NASA for use in space suits, memory foam mattresses and pillows adapt to your body shape, totally supporting your joints and muscles, giving you a restful night.

We have selected a range of the best available from SleepShaper™to recommend. These mattresses and pillows really do have a WOW factor, and are recommended by Which? Magazine.

We hold a small stock of them at the clinic for you (and your partner) to try out, so just click here to contact us and arrange a test. You won't be disappointed.

What is memory foam?

Quite simply, it is a polyeurethane foam featuring open visco elastic cells. The cells respond to body temperature, becoming softer in areas where your body has contact, therefore moulding to the body. Other mattress materials such as springs, cannot fully respond to an individual's shape and sleep habits, whereas memory foam creates a full moulding effect. Consequently, the lack of pressure points encourages less turning and therefore a more peaceful sleep. Memory foam has been used in healthcare for many years due to its pressure relieving properties.

Memory foam is clinically proven to reduce aches and pains during sleep, and can alleviate back pain due to keeping the spine in perfect alignment.

Due to the viscose properties, the material also returns to its original form very quickly and over a sustained period of time, hence increasing its lifespan. You will not find yourself rolling into the middle of a mattress with memory foam.

Which? Tests - and what to expect from Memory Foam

Which? Magazine tested mattresses to select ones which stand out because they have the best overall combination of body and lumbar support. Further, these mattresses didn't sag or lose much firmness in their harsh tests for durability, which involved passing a roller over each one 60,000 times to simulate 10 years of use.

Which? also tested the SleepShaper mattress for durability and found that the height and firmness barely altered. But other mattresses sagged, developed cuts or tore open.

Why SleepShaper™?

We have chosen SleepShaper as our preferred memory foam mattress and pillow manufacturer for the following reasons:

  • SleepShaper success in a recent Which? Magazine report
  • Price and service
  • Unlike many other memory foam mattresses, SleepShaper can come with a special machine-washable covering called Outlast designed to regulate temperature and keep you cooler at night
  • Overall feel of the products -
  • They are able to produce mattresses at specific sizes
  • A 5 year Guarantee covers all SleepShaper products and protects against manufacturing defects. If during this time, an indent of more than 2cm remains in the foam, they will replace the mattress at no additional cost.

What type of memory foam does SleepShaper use?

The majority of products use a 55kilo memory foam. Why?

  • It offers the immediate moulding effect and is not so temperature sensitive as higher density foams, and therefore works well in all climatic conditions
  • It has more "open cells" and therefore has more air - this can reduce the "overheating" effect often associated with memory foam
  • It does not compromise on durability – tests by Which?, a consumer magazine applied pressure equivalent to 10 years extreme use and it out-performed most other brands

When delivered, memory foams can often produce a chemical smell. SleepShaper composition does NOT produce this smell and therefore there is no need to open windows!

SleepShaper also knows the source of all raw materials used, and they conform to British fire regulations so you can rest easy.

What is Memoryfoam like to sleep on?

It takes time to get used to a memory foam mattress because the foam softens in response to your body heat so more of your body is in contact with the mattress. If you find it painful to lie down in bed, this type of bed should be more comfortable because the body's weight is spread more evenly on the mattress.

How do I select the right mattress, and then adapt to it?

It is important to try a memory foam mattress before you buy it. Wear the most pyjama-like clothing you can in public, take off your shoes and lie on the bed for 15 to 20 minutes. Relax in one position, then move into another to see how easy it is for you to move. Once you've bought your mattress, make sure that the slats in your bed's base are no more than 6cm wide and more than 4cm apart. This ensures sufficient ventilation, but prevents the mattress sagging through the slats.

If you're allergic to dust mites, the SleepShaper mattress comes with a washable cover, many others do not. Avoid making your bed in the morning; drawing the covers up over a warm bed provides exactly the right warm, damp, dark environment for dust mites to breed.

About the SleepShaper Original Mattress...
